The Italian American Woman’s Organization

Founded in 1998, the Italian American Women’s Organization of Chicago serves as a social, cultural and charitable outlet for its membership. The Italian American Women’s Organization has been generously supporting Camp One Step by Children’s Oncology Services each year since 2000, and has donated $310,000 to our organization to send children to our programs. Local IAWO members also visit with our campers at Summer Camp each year and invite our campers to attend their annual fashion show held in November.

IAWO also recently supported the construction of the new youth and family lodge known as Soderquist Lodge, located at Conference Point Center, which features 27 bedrooms, more handicap accessible bathrooms, an elevator, as well as a permanent space for our medical team to care for children during their time spent at camp. We are extremely grateful to the leadership team and all members of the Italian American Women’s Organization for their dedication to our mission, programs and to the children and families we serve.

Conference Point Center

Camp One Step and Conference Point Center (CPC) deepened our relationship in 2014 when we began hosting several of our main programs (Summer Camp, Sibling Camp, Family Camp and Winter Camp) at their beautiful facility located on the shores of Lake Geneva in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. More recently, Camp One Step partnered again with CPC through our Legacy Building Campaign to support the construction of their newest lodge, known as Soderquist Lodge, which opened its doors in July 2018 and served our many children and volunteers at Summer Camp. This exceptional building will now provide us greater access to camper housing space, more handicap accessible bathrooms, an elevator, storage area, and permanent space where our medical volunteers can treat campers during their time at our programs.

With a long history that began in 1873, today they operate throughout the year serving over 28,000 young people, families and adults annually, supported by a volunteer staff of over 400 dedicated individuals. Similar to the mission of Camp One Step, Conference Point Center strives to give campers and guests the time of their lives in a safe, nurturing environment filled with fun, and packed with real life experiences, challenges and relationships that draw people closer together. Founded in faith and ministry, their core values include teamwork, excellence, connection, safety and adventure.
