In 2003, Kevin O’Meara was watching the news and saw a story about a camp for kids with cancer. Going through his own cancer treatments, he immediately felt inclined to find a way to help these kids. He brought the idea to his friend Bill Humphrey who came up with starting a motorcycle ride to raise money for Camp One Step. Twenty years later, Big Bikes Helping Little Tykes has raised more than $500,000 for Camp One Step by Children’s Oncology Services.

Camp One Step’s mission is to provide kids with cancer and their families year-round camp experiences that foster joy, belonging, confidence, and lifelong friendships. All of their camp programs and resources are completely FREE to participants, which is why support from organizations like Big Bikes Helping Little Tykes is so meaningful. On average, it costs Camp One Step approximately $1,000 to send a child with cancer to camp. 

O’Meara shared that, “Camp One Step is very special to me because the kids can just be kids for a while. Being a cancer survivor I know how your life is turned upside down, and camp helps with letting the kids see that other kids are going through what they are going through.”

On Saturday, July 16th, Big Bikes will be hosting their 20th Annual 140-mile Motorcycle Run from Demma’s Bar and Grill in Oak Lawn, IL to DJ’s on the Drink in Lake Geneva, WI. They expect to have more than 100 riders and participants. Everyone will gather after the ride for pizza and drinks. It is $20 per rider and passenger.
