How did you get involved with Camp One Step?

I learned about Camp One Step from a Child Life Specialist in the area. I was hoping to get involved in an oncology camp as I was pursuing becoming a Child Life Specialist and thought this would be a great opportunity to work with children and their families.

How long have you been involved with our organization?

I have been with COS since the Summer of 2021.

What volunteer roles have you held?

I started as a volunteer counselor for several programs while they were virtual, due to COVID restrictions. Then when the CONNECTED program was established, I became the Assistant Program Coordinator for the first year of the program and am now the Director for the CONNECTED program.

What keeps you coming back to Camp One Step?

The campers, their families, and the volunteers that I work with. Everyone is so incredible to work with and I never stop smiling during our programs. We are truly a family and everyone is so welcoming and accepting, no matter how long they’ve been a camper for.

What do you love the most about the program you lead?

I love that the CONNECTED programs can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Whether you’re in America, on the other side of the world, in your living room or in the hospital, you can still join our program. We tailor our activities so everyone can enjoy them and participate. It’s also amazing to see the camaraderie and fun that is had even though we are all virtual.

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give campers?

This is a great program to attend if you aren’t ready for sleepaway camp and if you’re a regular in our other programs. Camp is a place where everyone can just be a kid, have fun, and laugh!

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give new or interested volunteers?

As I said above, I truly never stop smiling when I’m at camp. The joy and energy that our campers and volunteers have is unwavering. I can’t imagine my life without Camp!

What are some of your interests outside of camp?

I love cooking and baking, exploring new restaurants, traveling the world with my husband, fashion and interior decorating, the Chicago Cubs, UNC Basketball and playing with our dog, Winnie.
