How did you get involved with Camp One Step?

I got involved with camp through one of my professors in graduate school. She bought up Camp One Step and how it would be an awesome experience to try and get involved in for volunteer hours. I decided to give it a go and have loved camp ever since.

How long have you been involved with our organization?

I started volunteering for Camp One Step in 2020! The first virtual sibling camp due to COVID-19!

What volunteer roles have you held?

I have been a group leader for Day Camp.

What keeps you coming back to Camp One Step?

I keep coming back to camp because of the relationships I get to build with the children and staff, and the fun/high energy that camp brings. I love being able to connect and build relationships with everyone at camp. Every year that I continue to come to camp, it feels like I’m visiting family!

What do you love the most about the program you lead?

I love being able to give the siblings at camp a space where the focus is truly on them! They can meet other campers who may have gone through similar life experiences and are able to relate to one another.

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give campers?

All of our campers and staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. There are ton of different activities for you to explore. You might feel nervous for a few hours, or even the days leading up to camp, but when you arrive on campus, you will feel the AMAZING camp family spirit. You will come being a new camper, but you will leave as a member of our camp family!

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give new or interested volunteers?

DO IT! You will not regret it! You will have an AMAZING time! You will come being a new volunteer, but you will leave as a member of our camp family! You will want to continue volunteering for years and would want to explore different camps as well! There is no better time to volunteer than the present! So just hop on in it! The other counselors and campers will guide you and teach you everything you need to know.

What is your current professional work/role?

I am a Clinical Psychologist!

What are some of your interests outside of camp?

I enjoy anything activity based such as Pickleball and Roller-skating. I also enjoy playing on my Nintendo Switch and board games!
