Program Director Erin Williams
How did you get involved with Camp One Step?
I got involved with Camp One Step through a family member of Jeff Infusino. We are friends on
Facebook and know each other from dance when we were younger and she would always post
about camp and raising money for them, so one day I searched camp on Google, and it checked
all the boxes for what I was passionate about and my career goals. I decided to apply, and the
rest is history!
How long have you been involved with our organization?
My first camp program was Sibling Camp in 2018! 2026 will be my 9th summer with camp!
What volunteer roles have you held (includes volunteering for a Camp One Step event or TOS)?
I have volunteered for Chicago Day Camp, Sibling Camp, Summer Camp, Adventure Camp, Dude
Ranch, Family Camp, Winter Camp, and of course my favorite Utah Ski Camp! I have been a
counselor or medical staff at each program. The only ones left on my list are BTFC and
Washington DC and then I will have done all of the in-person camps!
What keeps you coming back to Camp One Step?
There is truly no better medicine than camp. Camp is a soul filling place where kids get to do
things that they may have otherwise not had the opportunity to do. What keeps me coming
back are the relationships I have built (both with campers and other volunteers) and the joy it
brings me to watch campers come to camp for the first time, try new things, and fall in love with
a place where they feel like they belong.
What do you love the most about the program you lead?
Oh my! What isn’t there to love about the Utah Ski Camp? Truly one of my favorite weeks of the
whole year! There is nothing cooler than seeing a camper who was struggling on the mountain
on Day 1 absolutely crushing it on our last day. I also love that we get to work with the National
Ability Center (NAC). We have a really special partnership with them, and they help to make it
the most special week in Park City!
What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give campers?
This is such an amazing opportunity to learn a new skill and try something new! Don’t be afraid
to get out there- you will most definitely have a fall or two but keep going! I promise you will go
home feeling so accomplished and proud of yourself!
What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give new or interested volunteers?
Utah Ski Camp is unlike any other camp and if you have thought about applying or you are
wanting to get involved with camp (and you enjoy skiing or snowboarding) then this would be
such a great way to fall in love with camp. Forming relationships with the campers and fellow
volunteers is one of the best parts about camp! You get to spend so much time together in this
setting…you can meet a stranger on day and have a best friend by the time you leave!
What is your current professional work/role?
When I am not at camp, I work as pediatric hematology oncology nurse in Iowa City, IA. I have
been here for 5 years, and I truly cannot imagine working in any other specialty. There is nothing
more than special than seeing your patients outside of the hospital AT CAMP having FUN!
What are some of your interests outside of camp?
Outside of camp I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, going to coffee shops,
baking/cooking, and trying new restaurants. I am also in my 3rd year of NP school so I spend lots
of time studying too!
