Event Volunteer

Children’s Oncology Services operates three major fundraising events each year, and we are always in need of energetic volunteers to make these events possible.

Flight is the organizations signature Gala and largest fundraiser. Event description is below:

Escape to virtual destination with no passport needed for the 2017 FLIGHT Gala to benefit Camp One Step by Children’s Oncology Services, on Friday, November 10th at the Four Seasons Hotel-Chicago. Children’s Oncology Services will be entering its fourth year with this culturally-themed gala representing destinations from around the world.

Join more than 350 guests that support childhood cancer awareness at this gala that every year sends more kids to One Step Programs. Guests of FLIGHT will enjoy a destination inspired cuisine and dancing to music by the Becca Kaufman Orchestra. Memorable silent and live auctions will also be held. Plus the highlight of the night is the moving program that features some of the One Step campers that witness the magic of this nonprofit firsthand.

Our 12th annual One Step Charity Poker Championship raised more than $120,000. Players from all over the Chicagoland-area and Northwest Indiana played their best hand for an evening of poker and high stakes gambling, memorable food and drinks, prizes and of course, charity.

Celebrity bounty players included NBC’s Chicago Fire Randy Flager that made it to the final table, ESPN and Chicago White Sox announcer Jason Bennetti, along with media personalities NBC Chicago’s Marley Kayden, WSCR “The Score” AM 670 Laurence Holmes and Danny Parkins, and National Movie Critic and FOX Chicago host Richard Roeper.

Players of all levels competed for approximately $15,000 in prizes including the coveted Grand Prize: a seat at the 2017 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas ($10,000 value) sponsored by Raymond James. Nick Erlenbaugh won the tournament and will be heading to the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.

Each year, 90 to 100 individuals challenge themselves to run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon while raising funds to send kids with cancer to camp.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is one of the most prestigious marathons in the world! It is a flat course that starts and ends in Grant Park and winds through 29 neighborhoods. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon has thousands of runners and over 1.7 million spectators to cheer runners on during their 26.2 mile run. On the morning of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, we provide our team with private gear check, bathrooms without lines and a light breakfast of bagels, bananas, coffee and water.  When runners pass mile 13, Team One Step has a cheer station to give high-fives and keep our runners going! After runners cross the finish line of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Team One Step provides pedicab rides back to our Celebration Party! At the Celebration Party, there is a full buffet, music, a photographer and a whole lot of cheering.
