Development Manager

Camp One Step by Children’s Oncology Services is searching for a Full-Time Development Manager to join our team of dedicated professionals. The Development Manager is a newly created full-time role within Camp One Step that will help direct fundraising planning and development activities, focused on driving revenue growth through the organization’s special events, third party events, clubs and organizations, and corporate partner channels.

The success of the Development Manager will be predicated on their ability to be an engaged and collaborative team member, with the ability to plan and organize events, work with and lead volunteers, demonstrate organizational skills and multi-task projects, communicate effectively, assess potential situations and generate possible solutions, and take an innovative approach to philanthropy while developing effective donor and volunteer relationships. The Development Manager will work with the President and Vice President of Philanthropy to develop and achieve annual philanthropic goals using a comprehensive and cohesive development team plan, as well as support a strong philanthropic culture amongst donors, prospects, volunteers and camper families which are all part of the Camp One Step organization. This position will report to the Vice President of Philanthropy, but special event work will be managed under the direct supervision of the President.

What does this job involve? Some of the duties include:

  • Specifically, she/he will be responsible for overseeing the planning, organizing, and implementation of fundraising initiatives, including two main special events (Flight dinner gala and Poker charity event), a future annual event which will be developed and led by our Young Professionals Council (YPC) in FY20, as well as supporting third party events including those sponsored by individuals, clubs and other organizations, and cultivating/soliciting corporate sponsors for special events:
  • Point person leading and managing Flight and Poker event logistics, and working with volunteer event committees. President/ED to oversee both events.
  • Working with the Board, Advisory Council, WI Working Groups, and YPC to develop and solicit corporate sponsorships for Poker and Flight special events
  • Point person managing relations for and supporting logistics of Third Party events
  • Support two secondary campaigns: Tip of the Hats and Holiday Annual Appeal
  • Support special events logistics planned by Board, Advisory Council, and Wisconsin working groups
  • Point person working with YPC to plan, execute an annual event or campaign
  • Point person to develop/increase corporate matching gift program partners
  • Point person for the Strategic Alliance Working Group, which focuses on securing new corporate partners
  • Help to establish, measure and achieve annual revenue goals for special events, third party events, and corporate accounts managed by this position
  • Manage the cultivation and stewardship of special event, third party, club and organization donors, ensuring that they are engaged, appreciated and recognized

    Teamwork and Communication Expectations:

  • Serve as an articulate, enthusiastic, and visible spokesperson for the organization to effectively communicate Camp One Step’s mission, programs, funding needs and goals, and manage relationships to meet those goals
  • Work collaboratively with our Social Media Coordinator to ensure marketing and messaging relating to special events and donor accounts are communicated effectively through all mediums, including social media platforms, print, and website
  • Work collaboratively with the program team to ensure program results can be shared through timely stewardship reporting and donor communications.
  • Ability to participate in strategic planning with President/Vice President of Philanthropy/Board, and communicate effectively with volunteer committee members


    Bachelor’s Degree. Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in some combination of events management, development, marketing and communications, with successful relationship building and strategic abilities demonstrated throughout one’s career.

    Effective relationship builder and influencer with experience leading diverse teams, and engaging with key partners, donors, Board, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders.

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from donors, stakeholders, partners, board members, managers, and general public

    Demonstrated ability to develop new donors, maintain existing donors, and identify/cultivate prospective donors.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills, public speaking and effective presentation skills.

    The propensity to work collaboratively to achieve results.

    Ability to develop and manage event budgets, track expenses and project revenue goals

    Long-term strategy development with execution success.

    Demonstrated passion for transformative work, humility, integrity, and mission-driven with an ability to inspire others.

    Self-motivated and able to work independently with orientation to deadline and detail

    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint specifically), and familiar with the use of donor management software and systems
