How did you get involved with Camp One Step?

I heard about camp from friends and family who had been involved.  They only had good things to say.  When I had a free summer, I decided to come check it out!

How long have you been involved with our organization?

Since the summer of 2016.

What volunteer roles have you held?

I’ve been a counselor for Summer Camp, Winter Camp, BTFC and the Adventure Camp.  I am also a program leader for Excursion at Summer Camp and Program Coordinator for Sibling Camp.

What keeps you coming back to Camp One Step?

The fun!  Each camp offers new experiences, people, and memories.  I’ve always left camp smiling at all the fun we’ve had together.

What do you love the most about the program you lead?

The siblings are such a special part of the camp family.  I love being able to give them a place to be themselves and connect with friends who understand what their families have been through.  Sibling Camp is all about THEM; to feel important, make memories and have fun!

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give campers?

Be yourself.  You may feel uncomfortable or too cool for some camp activities, but participating and giving it your all will help you get the most out of the camp experience.

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give new or interested volunteers?

Be present.  The campers will show you new things every time you come to camp.  Be there for them.  Listen to their stories, play games with them, laugh and be silly.

What is your current professional work/role?

Special Education Teacher

What are some of your interests outside of camp?

Reading, crafting, being outdoors
