Program Coordinator

How did you get involved with Camp One Step?

I was a camper starting in 2007 and began volunteering after.

How long have you been involved with our organization?

I have been involved with camp for 16 years, coming up on my 17th summer at camp!

What volunteer roles have you held (includes volunteering for a Camp One Step event or TOS)?

I have been a counselor for Summer Camp and Winter Camp and now hold the roles of program leader for Campcraft during Summer Camp and I am a Program Coordinator for Winter Camp. I have volunteered at the Gala as well.

What keeps you coming back to Camp One Step?

The people – without a doubt, camp has brought some of the greatest people I have ever met into my life and those I still call best friends today. Camp One Step brings a certain magic that is indescribable. I love to be able to give back to the place that cured my soul as a camper!

What do you love the most about the program you lead?

I love my leadership roles because these programs gave me so much as a kid. The programs have a sense of friendship and closeness that truly shows what camp is all about, and I love being part of creating that magic. I feel so grateful to get the opportunity to work alongside such amazing and creative people to help put the camp mission to life and create smiles and laughter!

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give campers?

Share your interests, share your stories, be yourself. Be open to trying new challenges, experiences, and meeting new people. The support at camp is unmatched – don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things! Camp will bring out a certain side of you because there is an unspoken bond that helps you understand those around you on a deeper level. Camp truly is home.

What are some words of wisdom or advice that you would give new or interested volunteers?

It is absolutely normal to feel nervous coming into camp, but the thing about camp is that it makes you feel like you have known people for years. It won’t take long until you are totally engrained in the energy and laughter. Be yourself, be goofy, and definitely be involved because it will only make your experience better.

What is your current professional work/role?

I am a Certified Child Life Specialist at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn. I am so lucky I get to work with Camp One Step in my professional life as well!

What are some of your interests outside of camp?

I love music and concerts, doing art (i.e., drawing and painting), and being in the sunshine! I am a summer gal through and through and enjoy any activity on a body of water. I love traveling to new places and having new experiences as well. I am a sucker for a good view!
